Donna Smyth

Donna Smyth began her martial arts training as a teenager in 1973. Judo immediately became a favorite of hers as she quickly advanced in the classes at the Aldan Judo School. Within two years, she was teaching the beginner's classes, and then became the assistant teacher to her sensei, Mr. K. In 1980 she received the coveted black belt in Judo and has since attained higher rank. Another martial art Donna has studied is T'ai Chi, which she will be teaching at the Media Wellness Center.

The main focus in these T'ai Chi classes is on improving health through the slow, relaxed movements which tone the body to connect with the mind, soul and spirit. In China, health experts have recognized that having a patient worked on directly by a Chi Master and then having them practice T'ai Chi exercises is an effective powerful means of restoring and maintaining health. Part of Donna's philosophy of being a well-rounded martial artist is to also be a great healer. Twenty-five years ago she learned about the healing aspect of Chi, where she was taught to use her own inner energy for the purpose of helping those around her. Then seven years ago, she was introduced to the healing energy of Reiki. She has gone on to become a Reiki master and intends to make this one of her life's missions. Donna is a powerful Chi healer, a seasoned practitioner and instructor in T'ai Chi. She is available for half hour and hour healing sessions at three different locations: Lansdowne, Media and Paoli.
